Review: Comedy Extravaganza in 2011
Written by Simon Golding Sunday, 22 January 2012
The Comedy Extravaganza evening at the Castle Hall on Saturday September 27th was a tremendous success at our 2011 Festival. The six stand-ups, who had never performed stand-up before the festival comedy workshops began in April, were magnificent. Also on the bill were two seasoned circuit comedians, who had both given talks during the workshops at The Shakespeare public house. The cherry on top of a very big cake was the compére Andy Robinson, fresh from touring with Jo Brand, who steered the show from start to finish.
The 300 members of the audience erupted with both laughter and applause as each stand-up when through their act.
The whole journey for the six newcomers to stand-up comedy, who have had several offers to launch comedy clubs throughout the county, has been captured in a documentary by Plan B Media Productions. The DVD, which is called Standing Up, will be in the shops some time this year.
The festival also raised much needed funds for this year’s chosen charities; The Prostrate Cancer Charity and the Dry Bar, in Bridgnorth – a non-alcoholic bar for teenagers. The main sponsor for the evening was K Bassam Jewellers.
Keep an eye on the website this sell out event is definitely making a come back at our 2012 Festival!
