Shebangg and Friends Acoustic & Unplugged at The Old Castle

Written by Linda Mason Monday, 23 August 2010

Following on from last year’s hugely successful “SheBangg and Friends” event in the 2009 Bridgnorth Music Festival….. for 2010, SheBangg will again be dragging onto the stage a variety of their hugely talented musical friends to perform in the garden of the “Old Castle Inn” on Sunday 29th August. The event starts at just after 6.00 p.m. (following on from the Music Festival’s High Street event) and carries on until 10.30 p.m. It is all going to be a very relaxed, chilled-out affair with all of the musicians playing a selection of original and cover version acoustic songs.

Shebbang and FriendsThis year the mini-fest kicks off with Linda Tilley… a local well-known and loved solo singer /guitarist; next up will be the duo “Keleric”…. Comprising of Kelly and Eric singing and playing several popular cover-versions; Chris Rollason will be turning up next…. most often seen behind the lens of a camera, Chris can sometimes be encouraged to undertake his other love and skill of playing music!; Louise Smith, a talented singer/songwriter from Shrewsbury will be performing next, followed by Redditch-based guitarist and singer Adam Thomas (who will have just returned from “down under” just before the festival!); next, we are pleased to see the return of “Juke Joint John” with his great blues guitar and harmonica playing; then we have two of the Shrewsbury band “Small Bright Songs”  featuring the vocals and song writing talents of Jessie Jones; Tim Barratt (guitarist from SheBangg) will be performing next with a selection of his self-penned songs; Graham Clews (more often seen in his band the “Graham Clews Band”) will be travelling over from Birmingham to play a slot next, ably supported by the bongo talents of Leyton Burgess; we are very pleased to have well-known singer/songwriter Claire Hamill play a few of her songs, Claire is fitting this event into her busy Bridgnorth Music Festival schedule!; taking to the stage to finish off the night will, of course, be Bridgnorth’s very own four-piece “SheBangg”, playing in their more acoustic guise (this will be one of seven appearances by SheBangg in this years music festival).

Hoping the weather holds off…. it may be worthwhile bringing an umbrella just in case and, judging by the capacity crowd last year, it may also be worthwhile arriving early!! For refreshment purposes there are going to be pizzas available to purchase throughout the night and, to add to the candlelit atmosphere, Chinese lanterns will be available to send off into the night sky!

Overall, judging by last years event and this years line-up, this promises to be a great night, definitely NOT to be missed!

The Reasoning - Bell & Talbot Monday 30th August

Written by Linda Mason Friday, 30 July 2010

The ReasoningHot on the heels from their highly rated performance at London’s prestigious High Voltage Festival alongside the likes of ZZ Top, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Foreigner, Marillion and Opeth, up and coming Cardiff-based rockers The Reasoning take it down a notch to play a series of acoustic shows in more relaxed and intimate settings, before returning to the studio to record a follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2010 album, Adverse Camber.
But these are shows with a difference. Having just released “Acoustically Speaking”, an excellent  acoustic album with new interpretations of many of their most loved songs,  they’re relishing the opportunity to get to parts of the country that wouldn’t normally be possible, and spending time with their fans after the show over a few pints. So what better venue, than The Bell & Talbot in Salop Street, well known for its appreciation of live original music and a regular entry in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.

At the Quayside Bank Holiday Monday 30th August

Written by Kev Adams Friday, 20 August 2010

The Quayside acoustic/unplugged event is held on Bank Holiday Monday August 29th and was primarily set up as a platform for songwriters to showcase their own original material.  It's been a part of Bridgnorth Music and Arts Festival for the past three years and has built up such a reputation that we've been able to attract some of the best songwriters and performers from around the region - including a couple from beyond.

Set against the backdrop of the River Severn and with the best line up to date it should be a fantastic afternoons entertainment.

The line up for this year includes:

Jonathan DayJonathon Day - http://www.myspace.com/jonathanpeterday

Renowned Folk musician Dr Jonathan Day is promoting his excellent new album Carved in Bone which he's completed with the help of top folk musicians including Kevin Dempsey.  Jonathan has surprised us every time he's appeared at the festival so we won't even guess at this years line up.  You can catch some of his material on episode three of the Video series produced by Wez Bone at http://www.youtube.com/user/bridgnorthfestival

Jake Flowers - http://www.myspace.com/jakeflowers

Following their performance at T in the Park local favourites Jake Flowers backed by brothers Ed and Will Gauden are back in the town, blurring the lines between indie, folk and rock.  Jake, Ed and Will are also featured on episode one of Wez's videos.

Claire Hamill - http://www.myspace.com/clairehamill

Internationally known folk singer/songwriter Claire is appearing twice during the festival with another gig at The White Lion on Saturday 28th August.  In 2003 Eva Cassidy's version of Claire's song 'You Take My Breath Away' appeared on Eva's platinum-selling album American Tune and established Claire as a world class songwriter.

Emma and the ProfessorEmma and the Professor -  http://www.myspace.com/emmaandtheprofessor

From the Shropshire Marches, Emma Heath and Mark Davies are bringing the local folklore, myths and legends to life through their contemporary approach to acoustic folk roots music. Played on Guitar and Bodhran, the songs are inspired by tales on their very doorstep that hearken back to times of Marcher Warlords, local heroes, strange folk and even magical characters from the underworld.

Tony Russell

Really pleased to announce that we have Tony Russell back to the Quayside but this time he's adding colour of a whole different kind with a solo flamenco guitar set.  In his own words - "Solo flamenco guitar, covering a range of styles from moody Tarantas, the exotic Zambra Mora and dramatic Bulerías... no funny hats or castanets in sight!"

Flat Stanley - http://www.myspace.com/flatstanleyhideout

Flat Stanley "bringing there own blend of Folk noise to your ears Flat Stanley have played bars, clubs pubs, raves, festivals, freepartys, protests, In fields,in the sun, in the rain, up to our necks in mud, up to our eyes in beer, in debt, ,Played for punks Bikers,Druids,Lovers, Ravers, ,scoundrels, wasters and just about everyone and everywhere inbetween. Playing live is what life is all about for Flat Stanley, always passionate, and always a lively footstompin affair wether in a cozy booza or a festival stage. Flat Stanley have supported major artists like The Levellers, Ozric Tenticles the mighty Hawkwind and many more!"

Padge

Well known local ukulele wielding singer songwriter Nick Padget is kicking off the event on the Quayside.  Boundless energy and great songs.  It's going to be a brilliant afternoon

CHELFEST

Written by Linda Mason Thursday, 19 August 2010

Claire HammilThe Bulls Head and Chelmarsh Sports & Social Club have a packed music programme for the August Bank Holiday Weekend. Camping and Caravanning is available @ £5 per night and the 125 Bridgnorth to Highley bus service is an excellent way of getting to Chelmarsh during the day.

Kicking off the music extravaganza on the evening of Friday 27th August at The Bulls Head is singer song writer Claire Hamill. In 2003 Eva Cassidy's version of Claire's song 'You Take My Breath Away' appeared on Eva's platinum-selling album American Tune and established Claire as a world class songwriter. Her late 80's album "Voices" was also No 1 on the New age chart, although these days Claire's performances are more singer songwriter folk with new age influences.
